University of Maryland Medical Center Welcomes Rebecca Altman as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for its Midtown Campus

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) announces Rebecca A. Altman, RN, MBA, has joined the organization as the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for its Midtown Campus in West Baltimore. In this new executive leadership role, Altman will be responsible for the overall performance of the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus and play an integral role in building strong relationships with community-based partners to advance health equity and advance the medical center's strategic commitment to revitalizing the West Baltimore community.

Altman was selected following a national search based on her strong experience with multi-hospital systems and demonstrated commitment to driving continuous improvements in health access, quality, safety and patient experience. She brings a valuable mix of expertise to UMMC's inaugural CAO position, with 24 years in health care management, health care policy, business planning and integration and business development. Her extensive leadership experience also spans population health management, cross-cultural communications, crisis management and process improvement.

Altman joins UMMC from LifeBridge Health where she held several senior leadership positions, overseeing operations of two hospitals and leading the expansion of health care services in West Baltimore to address specific community needs. She serves as a member of the state's Health Equity Resource Community (HERC) Advisory Committee, where she chairs the data subcommittee. Altman's dedication to health care equity and her leadership have been recognized by The Daily Record, which named her as one of Maryland's "Top 100 Women" in 2021.

Among her top priorities, Altman will build on the operational, clinical and functional integration between UMMC's downtown and midtown campuses, enhancing the medical center's community health initiatives and improving efficiency of its ambulatory services. Another vitally important focus will be cultivating relationships throughout the University of Maryland Medical System, parent organization of UMMC, along with stakeholders at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, UM School of Nursing and other University of Maryland, Baltimore schools and programs.

Altman earned her Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University and her bachelor's degree in finance from Franklin and Marshall College. She is a Registered Nurse and graduate of Lancaster Institute of Health, now Penn Medicine.
