Welcome to our Team Persevere Half Marathon Page!
We are running in the Maryland Half Marathon on May 13th to benefit the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. We'll run on the roads and streets in and around the Maple Lawn Community in Howard County, Maryland.
We will run to honor the life of Erin Dean.
Erin battled for five and a half years with a resistant and recurrent type of Hodgkin's lymphoma and passed away on October 8, 2014. She was 28 years old.
From Erin's sister, Melinda, "Erin received the highest quality care available, delivered in a compassionate environment at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Aaron Rappaport was her oncologist and took amazing care of Erin and her family. The evening that Erin passed away, he personally stopped by her room to see Erin and her family. Later, in a letter he wrote to Mr. and Mrs. Dean, he mentioned that it was because of Erin's determination to live and zest for life that he continued to fight with her, finding new treatments to help maintain and extend her life. Erin was at the University of Maryland Medical Center at least 3 times a week. The nursing staff in the infusion center, the social workers, and other doctors became very special to Erin and her family for the constant care they gave her and the compassion they showed her on a comforting consistent basis."
Erin was a phlebotomist for Carroll Hospital Center. She enjoyed photography, and participated in track and field, specializing in shot put and discus. Throwing the shot, Erin won the 2004 Central Region Indoor Championship. She was a Carroll County Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2004. She was a member of the Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority at St. Francis University and the Stella Mariae Household of Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio.
Will you honor Erin's memory and support us as we run the Maryland Half Marathon? Every contribution makes a difference and will directly support the Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.
