Fairway to Life

Every golf season, local women's golf groups across Maryland participate in FAIRWAY TO LIFE, a series of golf tournaments linked by the common purpose to support the FAIRWAY TO LIFE Breast Care Center at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center (UMGCC).

Founded in 1998 by Judy Herman in honor of her mother, a breast cancer survivor, FAIRWAY TO LIFE dedicates its efforts to raise funds and awareness to fight breast cancer. Chair, Marie Bowers, became involved with FAIRWAY TO LIFE in 1999 when close friend, Judy, came to her seeking help in organizing future golf tournaments.

"What began as a favor to help a friend for a worthy cause became a passion that continues to this day. For 10 years, as chairman, it became my primary focus — doing my part to fight breast cancer by raising needed funds for research, awareness and patient care," said Marie at one of the golf tournaments.

Over the past thirteen years, the combined proceeds of the golf tournaments have exceeded $1,000,000 in funding for the FAIRWAY TO LIFE Breast Care Center at UMGCC to support research, education, and patient care and treatment for women facing the diagnosis of breast cancer. Philanthropic contributions allow our physicians and staff to continue advancing research and patient care to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient.

FAIRWAY TO LIFE is committed to continuing to raise philanthropic funds to benefit the FAIRWAY TO LIFE Breast Care Center at UMGCC and the fight against breast cancer.

The FAIRWAY TO LIFE 2016 golf tournament took place on May 25th hosted by the Ladies 18 Hole Club at Suburban Country Club. Beautiful weather combined with dedicated fundraising efforts made this event a great success!
